The organizers, Science for Ukraine, All European Academies (ALLEA), Kristiania University College, and the International Science Council (ISC), invite you to join this important half-day online conference to address the role of the higher education and research sectors across Europe in supporting and rebuilding these sectors in Ukraine. The conference will look at how the European Higher Education and Research sectors have responded to the Ukrainian crisis so far, share and learn from our experiences, identify future collective action needed for the rebuilding of the Ukrainian higher education and research sector, and plan for the future. We need to make sure that the lessons learn in this crisis are not forgotten and be better prepared for the inevitable next crisis.

How will we be able to maintain and expand the education of Ukrainian students in and outside Ukraine? How can we ensure and strengthen the participation of Ukrainian researchers in international research projects? What can we contribute with to rebuild the research and education infrastructure? This consultative conference seeks answers to such questions. It brings together key organizations and individuals working to support scholars and researchers on the run, displaced, or at risk. The goal is to learn from what works, identify good practice, and drafts recommendations for both the medium and long term.

If the conference succeeds in this, the participants, whether they represent a research group, a study program, a university or a government, will be able to improve their existing or planned measures, programs and initiatives. Europe's thousands of initiatives will then be better able to enable Ukraine to rebuild its place in the European economy - and we will all be better equipped for future crises.

The objectives of the conference are:

1. To share and identify best practices for how the higher education and research sectors can offer impactful support that meets the needs of Ukrainian researchers and students.

2. To identify priorities enabling the continued participation of Ukrainian scholars and researchers in high quality research projects and international research collaborations, and the rebuilding of the scientific and academic systems of Ukraine.

To maintain momentum for advocacy and support for the Ukrainian higher education and research sectors beyond the initial emergency response.

The conference is free to attend and open to everyone from the higher education and research sectors, humanitarian actors, relevant government bodies, and donors.

Here you will find more details about the conference and the registration.

The deadline to register for the event is 13 June 2022.
